When we are talking about something that happened in the past and want to talk about things that happened before this time, we use the past perfect. (Когда мы говорим о чем-то, что произошло в прошлом, и хотим рассказать о вещах, которые произошли до этого времени, мы используем Past Perfect.)

Формула: had + V_3 (written / finished / found etc)

• Alice had done her homework before she went to the cinema with her friend. — (Алиса сделала домашнюю работу до того, как пошла в кино со своей подругой.)

• When my mum phoned, I had already finished cooking the dinner. — (Когда мама позвонила, я уже закончила готовить ужин.)

• We had written our Maths test by 11 o’clock last Friday. — (Мы написали тест по математике к 11 часам в прошлую пятницу.)

• John had found the necessary information by that time. — (К тому времени Джон нашел нужную информацию.)
