Picture C (Lecture): This picture shows a large,
traditional learning environment. A
lecturer is giving a talk to a large
audience/crowd of students, most of whom are looking
forward, possibly taking notes. The learning method is more
passive for the students.
Picture D (Online/Individual): This picture
shows a young man working on a laptop, likely engaged in online
learning or using an educational application. The environment
is one of isolation and self-study,
where the focus is on his own learning pace and method.

ways of learning. Use the ideas below and the language in the box to

In Picture C, we can see a lecture,
which is a traditional way of learning. On the one
hand, a lecture gives an overview of the main themes of
a subject. The lecturer also raises questions
to develop students' thinking and can give a reading
list for further research. On the other hand, lectures are
often passive and not interactive,
which can make them boring.
In contrast, Picture D shows
online learning. The main advantage is
that it's easy to access and convenient; students can
study when they want. However, online learning also has
disadvantages. It isolates students
from their peers and the teacher, making it less personal.
Moreover, it requires strong computer
skills, which not all students possess.
Overall, while the lecture provides important
guidance and a comprehensive overview, online learning
is much more flexible.
