My motherland is the Russian Federation. My country is situated in the north of Eurasia. It is made up of 85 federal subjects, including regions, territories, and republics. Russia is washed by the Arctic Ocean. Russia is not washed by warm seas only; its northern coast borders by 18 countries. Most of the territory of Russia is covered by plains, such as the East European Plain and the West Siberian Plain. Mountain ranges can be found in the south and the east (for example, the Caucasus and the Altai). A large part of northern Russia is covered by permafrost and forests (taiga).
