38. Complete the text with the past simple form of the verbs in brackets.

That day, Jane and John, 11-year-old sister and brother, got up at 7.30 am. After breakfast they put on their school uniform and went out. Mum closed the door. Suddenly Jane said, “I left my French homework at home.” They all went back. Jane ran into her room and found her homework. Then the family got into the car. In the car John told his mother, “I didn’t take my T-shirt and it’s football today.”

They all ran back into the house. When John took his T-shirt, they got back into the car again. Mum was angry. The children were nervous. Mum switched on the radio. And the man on the radio announced, “Good morning! A lovely Sunday morning, isn’t it?”

“Sunday morning?” the mother couldn’t believe it. Jane and John started to laugh.
