Motoaka Pocahontas was a famous Red Indian princess. She was born in Virginia, USA, in 1595.
She was the daughter of a powerful Indian chief, Powhatan. Pocahontas helped keep the peace
between the English and the Indians.
In 1608 she saved Captain John Smith from the Indians. In 1609, Pocahontas took the name
Rebecca. She married John Rolfe and they had a son.
Pocahontas travelled to England, where everybody loved her. She was ready to return to America
when she died in Kent, England, in 1617.
