B. It was six o’clock in the evening and it was raining when Mr. Bird left his office to go home. He was careful to remember his big, black briefcase. He smiled. It was full of important papers and it made Mr. Bird feel important, too. He hurried along the dark, wet pavements to the tube station. His smart, shiny shoes nearly slipped on the steps as he went down to the platform to wait for the train. He was late and his wife was going to be angry – again.

C. Mr. Bird heard the loud noise of the train coming from the black entrance to the tunnel. There was a rush of cold wind and then the train appeared. The lights in its carriages were shining brightly. Mr. Bird could see that it was completely full. There were people standing. Their faces were against the glass windows. Mr. Bird stepped forward.

D. The station was very crowded, but he quickly pushed his way to the edge of the platform and was ready to jump first into the carriage when the doors opened. He hadn’t noticed the tall man behind him when he left the office. That man was standing right behind him now.

A. Suddenly Mr. Bird felt a hand on his arm. The tall man who was standing behind him used one hand to pull at his black briefcase. He placed his other hand right in the middle of Mr. Bird’s back. And he pushed.
